STRENGTHENING FAMILIES: A Parent-Child Program

Children’s Connection’s operates Strengthening Families: Parent-Child Home Program with funding from Texas Department of Family and Protective Services’ Prevention and Early Intervention Division. The program serves 8 rural counties around Dallas/Fort Worth.

The counties served by this program include:

Fannin (Bonham)
Grayson (Sherman)
Hunt (Greenville/ Commerce)

South and southwest of Fort Worth:
Hood (Granbury)
Johnson (Cleburne)

Somervell (Glen Rose)

The Strengthening Families: A Parent-Child Home Program provides intensive home visiting to families, with children between the ages of two and four, challenged by poverty, low levels of education, language and literacy barriers and other obstacles to healthy child development and educational success.

An intensive, hands-on home visiting model, professional trained Family Specialists visit with families twice-a-week. Using a new book or educational toy each week, they model verbal interaction, and learning through reading, play, and conversation, for the parent and child together. Family Specialists show parents how, through play and verbal interaction, they can enhance their child’s conceptual and social-emotional development.

This program provides resource and referral services, providing families with linkages to services in their local communities.
The Parent-Child Program is a nationally recognized evidence-based program with sites located in 18 states and 4 countries.
