Home Studies 1. Our professional staff prepare home studies for families who are seeking to gain custody of a child, or who are welcoming a child into their family through domestic or international adoptions. 2. Home studies are conducted for all adoptive parents, regardless of the type of adoption (private, domestic. international, state foster care system). The purpose of the home study is to document your background and home life. Rather than seeking to "inspect" you and your home, Children's Connections, Inc. (CCI) Adoption Caseworkers and Adoption Specialists are there to help you think through the process of adding a child to your household.
3. It is imperative that a qualified person conducts and prepares your home study. Texas law requires that home study preparers meet the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS)'s Minimum Standards for Child-placing Agencies even if they are private individuals not working with or for an agency. Unfortunately there are many individuals conducting home studies unaware that rules have changed and they are no longer qualified to conduct home studies in Texas. If your home study preparer does not meet these qualifications, you may be required to have another home study conducted by a qualified person that would require additional time and expense for your family. If your adoption is finalized on the basis of a home study that has been conducted by a person who does not meet these specific requirements, then there is a legal basis for your adoption to be overturned at the request of the birth parents, birth grandparents or others, placing the adoptive family at great risk. We prepare home studies and post-placement reports for all types of adoption.
